Prishtinë, 31 August 2007 – (Kosov@News) – Kosovo Daily “Koha Ditore”, reporting on the meeting of Kosovo and Serb leaders with the US/EU/Russian Troika says that the Unity Team members that met the Troika in the morning have proposed the building of good friendly relations between Kosovo and Serbia as two independent states. The Serbian side, reports the paper, opposed setting a final date for the process and expressed concern that the Kosovo side could unilaterally declare independence after December 10.

The other daily “Zëri”, carrying a headline saying that the division of Kosovo is not on the agenda, reports that in the first meeting of the additional period of talks, the Kosovo and Serbian side did not meet but discussed in different rooms their positions with the international envoys.

The paper says that international mediators ruled out the possibility of Kosovo’s division as an option. “The partition issue was never on the Troika’s agenda and was never raised by any of the sides,” the paper quotes EU Envoy Wolfgang Ischinger as saying.

“Express” highlights that the Troika of the Contact Group has received assurances from Prishtina and Belgrade that they will refrain from provocative acts and statements that may have a negative impact on the process of negotiations.

Upon return from the meeting in Vienna, four members of the Unity Team – Fatmir Sejdiu, Agim Çeku, Kolë Berisha and Hashim Thaçi – held a press conference where they presented their impressions from the meeting.

Kosovo negotiators were moderate in their statements on declaring independence after December 10. President Fatmir Sejdiu said declaration of independence will be done in cooperation with Kosovo allies. “I cannot give a precise date but we will take mature actions for a normal decision in good cooperation with those that support independence of Kosovo,” Sejdiu is quoted. Members of the Unity Team also claimed that they got assurances from the Troika that the territorial integrity of Kosovo will not be undermined.
