WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Albanian American Council (NAAC), joined by other leading Albanian-American Organizations, invites all Albanians and friends of Albanians to join us for a peaceful rally calling on the United Nations to recognize Kosova's Independence Now. This critical event will feature special appearances by various dignitaries, including: Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, Congressman Eliot Engel, Congressman Joe Crowley, and Congressman Vito Fossella. On December 10, 2007, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will receive the final report by Troika, which will end negotiations for solving the Kosova status. In 1998, Serbian military, police and paramilitary forces waged an ethnic cleansing campaign in Kosova, which resulted in more than 12,000 people being slaughtered; over 1.3 million refugees; and the destruction of beyond 65% of property throughout Kosova. It was Operation Allied Force, NATO's first major combat action, which said no to another great genocide within the borders of Europe.
Echoing Senator Hillary Clinton in a statement she released earlier this week: "If the government in Pristina decides for independence, I would strongly support prompt U.S. recognition, and I would urge the European Union to do the same." NAAC remains committed in ensuring that the people of Kosova achieve their universal right to self determination. The struggle for Kosova's Independence has been marked by incredible sacrifices. Now the time has come for independence, without further delay.
