Serbian Government has deemed the Kosovo’s nomination of Agim Ceku for prime minister unacceptable, stating that he is facing war crimes indictments, the Serbian B92 comments. Belgrade, 3 March 2006 - The Serbian Government’s Media Cooperation Office’s Chief, Srdjan Djuric, said that the War Crimes Tribunal has indicted Ceku for war crimes charges, adding that there are no instances in Europe or around the world where a country or state’s prime minister is indicted for war crimes, the medi publication points out. “The War Crimes Court has issued an indictment against Agim Ceku and an international warrant for his arrest is pending. Today in Europe, and throughout the entire globe most likely, there are no prime ministers who are accused of war crimes. For the Serbian Government, it is completely unacceptable to have a man, who should be in court facing war crimes charges, be elected as prime minister or for any other political position. The officials of the international community who are responsible for Kosovo have an obligation to protect the elementary norms of civilisation and stop Agim Ceku from being elected and make a mockery of the values which a democratic society is founded on.” Djuric told B92.
Kosovo's government is politely ignoring and not paying serious attention to these remarks. "This just shows why we want Independence for Kosovo. This is why the serbian formula of "more than autonomy, less than independence" will not work. Serbia just can't mind its own business" an unnamed Kosovo government official commented. "In Serbia's eyes, even Albanian children are terrorists, go figure" he continued. The only known indictments for Agim Ceku are the ones that were issued by Serbian government. There is no available information about any existing indictments of Ceku issued by the Hague Tribunal. Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu Thursday asked Ceku to form a new government, one day after the resignation of Prime Minister Bajram Kosumi. Ceku, who led the Kosovo Liberation Army against Serb troops in 1998 and 1999, says he is willing to assume the post. |
