Prishtinë, 12 october 2006 - In an international conference for investors in the energy sector held in Pristina, UNMIK chief Joachim Rücker said that Kosovo possesses 45% of lignite deposits in Europe and has the capability of becoming the greatest energy producer in the region. “Energy sector has a very big potential and Kosovo has the possibility of producing energy with a more reasonable price,” Rücker is quoted in Zëri. He added Kosovo is a place of energy and hope.
Among officials from Kosovo institutions that were also present, President Fatmir Sejdiu said the creation of the conditions for foreign investments will be a priority of the National Plan for Economic Development. Prime Minister Agim Çeku said he firmly believes Kosovo can be an attractive place for foreign investment in many fields. He also noted that Kosovo institutions are committed in drafting a sustainable economic and fiscal strategy. The host of the conference, Energy Minister Et’hem Çeku said according to Kosova Sot that Kosovo needs foreign investors to focus on the energy sector, and that through this project, Kosovo will solve many challenges and problems in a short-term period. The head of the USAID Michael Farbman has said that for the moment the system of production and distribution of energy is in a very bad situation and as such it needs repairs. “Major international financial institutions and donors, like the USAID, clearly see that the only possible approach for Kosovo development is to open considerable energy sources and a market for it,” Farbman said according to Infopress. |
