Prishtinë, 12 october 2006 - Member of the Kosovo Negotiations Team and leader of the "ORA Movement", Veton Surroi is reported to have met EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Javier Solana with whom he discussed continuation of negotiations for Kosovo status. Surroi said the official stand of the Kosovo side and the unchanged view of the Contact Group is that the process should conclude according to the existing plan and that the situation in Serbia should not serve as a reason to postpone status or start new negotiations.

EU’s High Representative spokesperson Christina Gallach said Solana pointed out that it is President Ahtisaari who will decide about timeframes.

According to RTK (Kosovo Public Television), Mr. Surroi, commenting on the possibility of postponement of the status process due to the elections in Serbia, said that the elections can by no means influence contents of the Negotiation Team platform, and they must not be used as a pretext for a new negotiation process, as the Serbian side has occasionally requested.

‘Any kind of purpose for deadline postponement bears the danger for renegotiation, which is totally unacceptable for the Kosovo side’ said Mr. Surroi.
