Prishtinë, 25 October 2005 - KosovoNews - Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Çeku visited city of Klina yesterday. Kosovo Daily "Koha Ditore" highlighted Çeku’s remarks that there is no willingness in the international community to postpone the status of Kosovo but that a postponement may happen.
“If Serbia declares early elections, it the postponement may be discussed… but even if it is postponed it will be for a short period of time,” the PM was quoted as saying. Daily Zëri quotes the Premier as saying that the UN Status Envoy Ahtisaari will propose the independence of Kosovo. “There is no reason to be concerned and I assure you that Kosovo will be an independent country; the technical process is over and we are on the concluding phase of finalising the independence of Kosovo,” Çeku added. The PM also told members of the Klina Municipal Assembly that “despite the recent incidents in Klina, these couldn’t dim your image for advancing the processes of Kosovo’s statehood”. Daily Bota Sot quotes Çeku on the front page as saying, “The sacrifice of the people of Kosovo will be rewarded with independence”. “We have proved we are capable of becoming a state and proof of this are the arguments that we have presented before the international community that Kosovo deserves to be a state,” said Çeku. “We are not interested about elections in Serbia, because we are divided from Serbia, therefore even if the status resolution is delayed we have strong guarantees from the international community that this will not affect the settlement of status which is for us the independence of Kosovo. There is no room for pessimism, but you must be a bit more patient, because Kosovo has paid a high price for this, therefore I call on all of you to be optimistic that no one can prevent the independence of Kosovo,” Çeku told citizens in Klina. Several dailies also highlight that Çeku said that “Klina is a model for all municipalities in Kosovo and how Kosovo should be served”. Accompanied by the Minister of Returns and Communities, Slavisa Petkovic, PM Çeku visited the family of Milorad Pavlovic, who was injured due to a recent bomb explosion in his house. “We proved that the Kosovo Government is interested for all citizens to live freely in their homes. Fortunately, the entire Pavlovic family is well and healthy and their apartment has been renovated with the funds of the Kosovo Government,” Çeku said during his visit into the house of the Pavlovic family. |
