Prishtine, 30 November 2003 – Kosov@News – Kosovo Daily Koha Ditore reports on its lead story that the two day NATO summit in Riga came up with messages for Kosovo that NATO will support Ahtisaari’s efforts to conclude status process, which will be acceptable to the people of Kosovo, and it will be willing to support building of a Kosovo security system.
"NATO will closely cooperate with the people of Kosovo, the European Union and other international stakeholders to promote stability and to help building a security sector in Kosovo which would be under democratic control with an ethnic representation and which would have legitimacy throughout Kosovo,” says Riga statement, reports Koha Ditore. Dailies also report that Serbia was allowed to be part of the NATO Peace Partnership without any condition. Koha Ditore quotes ICTY chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte as being unhappy with the NATO decision on Serbia. In a statement issued following the meeting, writes Zëri, NATO invites Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro to gain membership in the Peace Partnership program adding NATO expects issuing invitations to aspiring countries Albania, Croatia and Macedonia.
